2025-2026 SBCSC Mentoring Program
2025-2026 SBCSC Mentoring Program
Congratulations to our 2025-2026 mentoring scholarship recipients!
On August 8, 2026, an award ceremony and social gathering of the scholarship recipients, their mentors, and their families was held at Carlton Senior Living in Fremont. These eight former (2025) SBCSC scholarship recipients and college freshman has completed all the requirements to receive a $1,000 scholarship from SBCSC as financial assistance to their second year in college.
2025 was the first year we created the mentoring program as a mean to continue support our award recipients as they navigate through their first year in college.
About the mentoring program:
Only 2025 SBCSC Scholarship Award recipents can apply to this program. Applicants are asked to fill out an application identifying their college major(s) and areas they would like to receive guidance and suggestions from a mentor. They will list the top 3 potential mentors from a list of available mentors. The mentors will review the applications and meet to decide which students will be the best fit for them to provide the necessary assistance, including course selection, major and minor selection, internship advices, etc. The “paired” mentor and mentee will meet at least 4 times a year (via Zoom or personal meetings if possible. The student must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 at the end of their freshman year. Additonally, the student must complete a community service project(s) agreed upon by the mentor before the end of the program in July 2026.
The number of students accepted to the mentoring program is limited to the amount of the funding available but most importantly, whether or not we have adequate number of mentors willing and able to accept the students as mentees for one year.
Mentor qualifications: SBCC members or scholarship sponsors with Advanced degrees and/or teaching credential.
Below is the list of the students successfuly completed our inaugurated mentoring program for the 2025-2026 school year.
Almost all of these students and their mentors had agreed to continue their mentor-mentee relation for the 2026-2027 sophomore school year even without the scholarship. As a result, some mentors had decided to remove themselves from the 2026-2027 mentoring pool to allow them to focus on their current mentees. The 2026-2027 mentoring program has commenced in August 2026 and some of our available mentors are accepting more than one mentee.
We are always looking to expand our mentor pool so that we can accept as many students to this program as possible.
If you meet the above mentoring qualifications and would like to be a mentor for the 2027-2028 school year, please contact Joe Woo at joe.d.woo@gmail.com.
If you would like to donate to the mentoring program, please click on the DONATE button at the top of the page and select “mentoring program” from the dropdown menu.
