2025 South Bay Chinese Service Club Scholarship Awards Banquet

The South Bay Chinese Service Club (SBCSC) celebrated its 2025 scholarship recipients at an awards banquet on April 16, 2025, at the Pearl Bay Restaurant in Fremont. This year, a record total of $62,000 was granted through 40 scholarships to 38 deserving graduating seniors.

Our scholarship recipients are an impressive group. Among the 38 students, the average GPA is 3.89, and 10 of them boast a perfect 4.0 unweighted GPA. Collectively, they have also accumulated over 15,000 hours of community service.

Adding to their achievements, two of these recipients, Kelly Jia and Eric Lan from Irvington High School, are among the 10 Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) students who have received the prestigious $2,500 National Merit Scholarships, chosen from more than 15,000 Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Joe Woo, Scholarship Committee Chair addressed the guests after premiering the 2025 South Bay Chinese Club (SBCC) Video with the SBCC 60th Anniversary Celebration logo in the background.

Lily Mei, Mayor Emeritus of Fremont, was the keynote speaker invited to speak to the 2025 graduating seniors and scholarship award recipients.

David Haubert (Alamenda Co. Supervisor, District 1), Raj Salwan (Mayor of the City of Fremont), Alex Lee (California State Representative, District 24th), Simeone Chien (representing U.S. Rep. Ro Khanna), and Astrid Scott (representing State Senator Aisha Wahab) presented the certificates of commendation to the scholarship award recipients.

Caleb Yeung of Mission San Jose High School received the “Chinese Immersion Parents’ Council of Fremont (CIPCF) Mandarin Immersion Program Scholarship” from CIPCF President, Ina Dininno.

Eric Chen of Irvington High School received the “Citizens for Better Community (CBC) Scholarship for Excellence in Community Service” from CBC President, Sue Kwong.

Max Wen of American High School received the “Supervisor David Haubert Scholarship for Youth Engagement” from Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert.

Julee Jiang of BASIS Independent High School received the Best Essay Award from Jane Lin, former Scholarship Committee Chair and the sponsor of the 2025 Lin Family Best Essay Award.

In Memory of Jack Yee
(1942-2025)

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Jack Yee, a long-time member of SBCC, on March 26, 2025.

The Yee Family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to

1. Stanford Parkinson's Disease Research,
