2017-2018 SBCSC Scholarships

[Thank you for your interest in our Club's scholarship program.  The deadline to apply to this year's scholarship has passed.  We are no longer accepting applications at this time.  The information below is provided for those who would like to know more about our scholarship program and those who are considering to apply for next year's scholarship.]

Every year, the South Bay Chinese Service Club (SBCSC) awards scholarships to exemplary high school graduating seniors of Chinese descent.  Students residing in Fremont, Newark, or Union City, CA are eligible to apply.  Students residing outside of the tri-city area are also eligible to apply if their parents are members of SBCC in good standing since the fiscal year 2016-2017.  The only other requirement is that the applicants must have a minimum "unweighted" GPA of 3.2.  Applicants will need to submit their application online (which includes a personal essay) along with a letter of recommendation (submitted by a teacher or mentor directly to us) and an official seventh semester transcript (submitted by the school office directly to us).

The purpose of the scholarship program is to recognize these talented students for their hard work and achievements, and to provide encouragement for the challenges ahead.  Scholarship award recipients are selected based on their academic achievement, leadership qualities, extracurricular achievements, community services, and a number of other factors.  The actual number of scholarships will be determined by the amount of donations received.  In 2017, thanks to the generous contributions by our major sponsors and individual donors, our organization awarded five $2,500 scholarships, two $2,000 scholarships, five $1,000 scholarships, and seven $500 scholarships to 18 students for a total of $25,000 in awards.  Click here to visit our 2017 Scholarships web page to view last year's award recipients and the photo gallery.

The scholarship award recipients will be announced at the 2018 SBCSC Scholarship Award Banquet to be held at the Mayflower Restaurant in Union City on April 11, 2017 at 6:00 p.m.  All scholarship winners will be invited to the banquet and will receive a complimentary dinner. The program will include a keynote speaker who will address the students, parents, and guests.  This is one event that you do not want to miss in 2018.  Please go to the Award Banquet Reservation Page for more information and to make your reservation online.  So please mark your calendar and check back on February 11 to make your reservations online!

High School Seniors who are interested in applying for the 2017 - 2018 SBCSC Scholarships can fill out an Application Request Form and submit to the Scholarship Committee online.  Instructions with a link will then be sent to the applicants allowing them to fill out the application online.  Applicants will be notified by March 16, 2018 whether or not they have been selected to receive a scholarship.

Award recipients must appear in person to receive the award at the April 11, 2018 Award Banquet.

Deadline to receive the completed 2017-2018 application form is Wednesday, February 28, 2018.  All remaining application materials (a letter of recommendation and the official transcript) must be received by Friday, March 2, 2018.

Scholarship award recipients also receive recognition from members of U.S. Congress, State Senate and Assembly, and County Supervisor.
