SBCC will be celebrating the Year of the Rabbit, Lunar Year 4721, on Friday, February 10, 2023 at the Pearl Bay Restaurant in Fremont.

Bring your family, friends, and neighbors to join in the celebration and enjoy a delicious Chinese dinner. The deadline to make reservation is Friday, February 3, 2023.

2022-2023 SBCSC Scholarship Program is now accepting applications from graduating high school seniors

Click HERE to go to the “2023 Scholarships Information” page for more details and to request an application form. Graduating high school seniors of Chinese descent residing in the Tri-City area (Fremont, Newark, and Union City) with a GPA of at least 3.0 (2.5 for Need-based scholarships applicants) are eligible to apply. The minimum scholarship award amount is $1,000. This year the Chinese Immersion Parents’ Council of Fremont (CIPCF) is partnering with SBCSC to offer several scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have previously completed the Mandarin Immersion Program (MIP) of the Fremont Unified School District (FUSD). Seniors eligible to apply for the CIPCF scholarship need not be of Chinese descent, but eligibility for other SBCSC Scholarships is only open to students of Chinese descent. The deadline to receive the application and supporting documents is February 24, 2023. The Scholarship Award Banquet will be held in the evening of April 19, 2023 at the Pearl Bay Restaurant in Fremont.

Scholarship Donations for 2023… In 2022, thanks to the generous contributions by our major sponsors and individual donors, our organization awarded a total of $41,000 scholarships to 22 students. This tremendous outpouring of support from our community during the pandemic year is greatly appreciated by the SBCSC Scholarship Committee. We will need your support again this year to provide the much needed financial assistance many of our exceptional students will require when entering the colleges of their choosing. Celebrating Club Members who are octogenarians

The Elders Dim Sum Brunch was held on Friday, November 4, 2022, 11 a.m. at the Pearl Bay Restaurant, Fremont, CA to celebrate and honor our SBCC members ages 80 and over. Below is the group photo taken at the luncheon.

The octogenarian club welcomes two new members this year - Aaron (current SBCSC President and 2001 SBCC President) and Maelene Wong (1985 SBCC President).

SBCC General Member Meeting was held on October 8, 2022 at the Carlton Senior Living Center

Members have approved the proposed operating budget for 2022-2023 and the amendments to the bylaws. Key changes to the Bylaws are: (Click HERE to view the Bylaws)
(1) Redefine the age of dependent children under Family Membership from “under 19” to “24 years of age and under” to extend the family membership coverage to college students.
(2) change annual membership from starting on a fiscal year (July 1st) to the actual month a new member joined the Club.
Lunch was served following the meeting allowing members to finally have a chance to socialize in person. All guests were checked for temperature and were wearing masks inside the facility.

SBCC supported the Chinese Historical and Cultural Project at their 35th Anniversary Gala

On September 17, 2022, SBCC President Dr. Clifton Der Bing represented SBCC/SBCSC to attend the Chinese Historical and Cultural Project’s 35th Anniversary Gala at the Marriott Hotel in San Jose. The event was highlighted by a showcase of Chinese fashions where our very own Clifton and his mother, Sandi were two of the models.

SBCC Members in the News

Congratulations to our SBCC President, Dr. Clifton Der Bing and Vice President Joseph Fruen who tied the knot on August 20th, 2022 at the Church of St. Jude the Apostle in Cupertino. The event was attended by over 200 guests including several members of the SBCC Board of Directors and Officers.

雙喜臨門 (double happiness)

Shortly after the wedding, J.R. Fruen, an attorney and third generation Cupertino resident, was elected and sworn in as councilmember of the City of Cupertino in December, 2022. A second Congratulations is in order!
