2022 SBCSC Scholarship Awards Banquet

After two years of conducting our annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony “virtually” via Zoom meetings, we finally were able to hold the 2022 Scholarship Awards Banquet in-person on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at the Grand Golden Bay Seafood in Union City. We have a record number of attendees in spite of the strict requirements of proof of vaccinations for all attendees.
Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and donors, the South Bay Chinese Service Club was able to award a record amount of $41,000 in scholarships to 22 exceptional local high school seniors of Chinese decent. CBC/SBCC Summer Picnic will be held Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Lake Elizabeth from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm

This annual picnic is co-hosted by Citizens for Better Community (CBC) and the South Bay Chinese Club (SBCC). It will be held after CBC’s summer Toastmaster’s Youth Leadership Program graduation. Come and enjoy the afternoon with great friends and delicious food.

The picnic will be held at the Palms Pavilion Picnic Area (Lake Elizabeth behind the Aqua Adventure Water Park).

SBCC Received Proclamation from the City Council of the City of Fremont

On May 3, 2022, the City Council of the City of Fremont proclaimed the month of May as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and congratulated the South Bay Chinese Club for its outstanding contributions to preserving and sharing the Chinese culture and customs with the community. The proclamation was presented by Mayor Lily Mei to Dr. Clifton Der Bing, President of SBCC. You can click HERE or the image to view the proclamation.

SBCC Members attended CBC 30th Anniversary Spring Celebration

On Saturday, April 30, 2022, eleven SBCC members attended the Citizens for Better Community (CBC) 30th Anniversary Spring Celebration in support of this annual fundraising event that included two beneficiaries: New Day For Children and Toisan Benevolent Association. LT Colonel Chris Gin

Congratulations to Lieutenant Colonel Chris Gin who was selected to take over an Army battalion command at the Defense Language Institute (DLI) in Monterey. The Change of Command Ceremony was held at the Presidio of Monterey on 17 June, 2022. In attendance witnessing the change of command ceremony were family members, friends, and members of our South Bay Chinese Club.

Chris is a 2001 SBCSC scholarship award recipient who returned as a keynote speaker at the 2006 award banquet. His parents are Dr. Victor Gin (former SBCC President and current Scholarship Golf Tournament Committee Chair) and Dr. Fran Sabado Gin (former SBCC President and current Scholarship Selection Committee member).
