2018-2019 SBCSC Scholarships

Every year, the South Bay Chinese Service Club (SBCSC) awards scholarships to exemplary high school graduating seniors of Chinese descent.  Students residing in Fremont, Newark, or Union City, CA are eligible to apply.  Students residing outside of the tri-city area are also eligible to apply if their parents are members of SBCC in good standing since the fiscal year 2017-2018.  Applicants will need to submit their application online (which includes a personal essay) along with a letter of recommendation (submitted by a teacher or mentor directly to us) and an official seventh semester transcript (submitted by the school office directly to us).  IMPORTANT: Do not wait till the last minute to submit the application and the transcript.  Schools often need more than a week to process transcript requests and if we have received your application but have not received one or both of the required documents, we will not be able to send you a reminder to give you enough time to follow up on the rest of the documents to make the deadline!

The purpose of the scholarship program is to recognize these talented students for their hard work and achievements, and to provide encouragement for the challenges ahead.  Scholarship award recipients are selected based on their academic achievement, leadership qualities, extracurricular achievements, community services, and a number of other factors.  The actual number of scholarships will be determined by the amount of donations received.  In 2018, thanks to the generous contributions by our major sponsors and individual donors, our organization awarded five $2,500 scholarships, one $2,000 scholarship, one $1,500 scholarship, six $1,000 scholarships, and ten $500 scholarships (including a Best Essay award) to 22 students for a total of $27,000 in awards.  Please visit our 2018 Scholarships Recap web page to view last year's award recipients and the photo gallery.

The scholarship award recipients will be announced at the 2019 SBCSC Scholarship Award Banquet to be held at the Mayflower Restaurant in Union City on April 10, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.  All scholarship winners will be invited to the banquet and will receive a complimentary dinner. The program will include a keynote speaker who will address the students, parents, and guests.  This is one event that you do not want to miss in 2019.  The Award Banquet Reservation Page is currently under construction and will be available soon.  So please mark your calendar and check back in February to make your reservations online!
