2016-2017 SBCSC Scholarships

Every year, the South Bay Chinese Service Club awards scholarships to exemplary high school graduating seniors of Chinese descent.  Children of club members and students residing in Fremont, Newark, or Union City, CA are eligible to apply.  Applicants will need to submit their application online (which includes a personal essay) along with a letter of recommendation (submitted by a teacher or mentor directly to us) and an official seventh semester transcript (submitted by the school office directly to us).  IMPORTANT: Do not wait till the last minute to submit the application and the transcript.  Schools often need more than a week to process transcript request and if we have received your application but have not received one or both of the required documents, we will be able to send you a reminder to give you enough time to follow up on the rest of the documents to make the deadline!

The purpose of the scholarship program is to recognize these talented students for their hard work and achievements, and to provide encouragement for the challenges ahead.  Scholarship award recipients are selected based on their academic achievement, leadership qualities, extracurricular achievements, community services, and a number of other factors.  The actual number of scholarships will be determined by the amount of donations received.  In 2016, thanks to the generous contributions by our major sponsors and individual donors, our organization awarded four $2,000 scholarships, five $1,000 scholarships, and eleven $500 scholarships to 19 students for a total of $18,500 in awards.  Click here to visit our 2016 Scholarships web page to view last year's award recipients and the photo gallery.

The scholarship award winners will be announced at the 2017 SBCSC Scholarship Award Banquet to be held at the Mayflower Restaurant in Union City on April 5, 2017 at 6:00 p.m.  All scholarship winners will be invited to the banquet and will receive complimentary dinner. A keynote speaker will be addressing the students and the parents.  This is one event that you do not want to miss in 2017.  So please mark your calendar!
