Our club’s primary community service project is the Scholarship Program, which grants deserving high school seniors of Chinese descent monetary awards for college.  This program is funded by the club golf tournament, as well as generous donations from club members and local businesses.  Each year there are very impressive applicants and this year is no exception.  We invite you to join with us in congratulating their academic and community service excellence at our annual Scholarship Award Banquet.

This year, our keynote speaker is Dr. Rita Ng (伍思茵醫生), an American beauty pageant titleholder and cardiologist who was crowned Miss California 2000. Dr. Ng is making her second appearance at our scholarship award banquet as she was the keynote speaker at our 2001 Award Banquet after graduating from Stanford and winning the title of Miss California.  Dr. Ng was the first person of Asian descent to be crowned Miss California in the 80-year history of the pageant.

Dr. Ng won the preliminary talent award as a concert pianist, received the Miss America Scholar Award, and placed 2nd runner up at Miss America 2001. As Miss California, she traveled to the French Riviera and Asia to promote children's health and welfare.

Dr. Ng graduated as Valedictorian of Tracy High School in 1996.  She was captain of the varsity tennis team, International Baccalaureate Diploma recipient, and class president for four years.

Dr. Ng completed her undergraduate studies at Stanford University, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a 3.99 GPA, earning a degree in Human Biology with Honors.  She earned her medical degree from UCSF Medical School, Internal Medicine Residency at UCSF, and served as Chief Fellow at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Heart Institute where she was named “Fellow of the Year.”

Dr. Ng has appeared in Time Magazine, US Weekly, Glamour Magazine, Cosmopolitan Magazine, and was the featured model for Procter & Gamble Global Beauty Campaign. She serves on numerous boards and foundations such as the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation National Selection Committee. As chairwoman for many philanthropic organizations and a gifted pianist, She has traveled extensively around the nation and world giving keynote addresses and piano concerts, helping to raise millions of dollars for her causes around the nation and world.

Dr. Ng is the Chief of Cardiology at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland & Richmond, received the “Teacher of the Year” award, and serves on the Board of Directors for The Permanente Medical Group, the largest physician group in the nation.
